5 March 2010: Caribbean and EU diplomats, as well as representatives from civil society, met to discuss an enhanced Caribbean–EU partnership at a seminar in Barbados held from 4-5 March 2010, with a view to launching a drafting process of a new EU-Caribbean strategy addressing, inter alia, challenges related to climate change.
8 March 2010: The Global Environment Facility’s Scientific and Technical Advisory Panel (GEF STAP) held an open meeting at the International Fund for Agricultural Development’s (IFAD) headquarters in Rome, Italy, with representatives from GEF agencies, the GEF Secretariat, GEF Evaluation Office and Conventions, and observers from the GEF Council.
8 March 2010: During the Gulf Environment Forum 2010, which is being held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, from 7-9 March 2010, under the patronage of His Majesty King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz and with the support of the UN Development Programme (UNDP) and the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), Veerle Vandeweerd, UNDP Environment and Energy Group Director, called on Gulf States to exercise leadership in addressing both poverty and climate change challenges.
4 March 2010: During the 13th session of the Human Rights Council, taking place in Geneva, Switzerland, from 1-26 March 2010, Navanethem Pillay, High Commissioner for Human Rights, presented her report, which covers activities undertaken by the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in 2009, including those aimed at raising awareness of the human rights implications of climate change-related effects.
19 February 2010: The International Civil Aviation Authority’s (ICAO) Committee on Aviation Environmental Protection’s (CAEP) met at ICAO headquarters from 1-12 February 2010, in Montreal, Canada, and announced the ICAO’s commitment to the development of a carbon dioxide standard for commercial aircraft by 2013. This effort would result in the first global fuel-efficiency standard for any industry sector.
4 March 2010: The UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) is organizing a series of regional expert consultations between March and May 2010, with a view to assessing the advisability of a Universal Declaration of Ethical Principles in Relation to Climate Change.
