This three-day event will focus on the challenges related to urban planning, infrastructure financing, public housing, waste management, urban biodiversity and climate change. Participants will discuss how to mitigate risks and build inclusive and harmonious cities. Partners of the Summit include the Asian Development Bank (ADB), UN-Habitat, the UN Development Programme (UNDP), the World Bank, and the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP).
11 March 2010: The UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UNISDR) has launched the 2010-2011 World Disaster Reduction Campaign “Making Cities Resilient,” which focuses on raising political commitment to disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation among local governments and mayors.
9 March 2010: In an opening speach to the ITB Travel Trade Show, which is convening in Berlin, Germany, from 10-14 March 2010, UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Secretary-General Taleb Rifai urged the tourism sector to ensure that global policies are supportive of the sustainable growth of tourism.
1 March 2010: The International Food Policy Research Institute's (IFPRI) new project, Global Futures for Agriculture, will evaluate promising technologies, investments and policy reforms to improve agricultural productivity and environmental sustainability in developing countries. 
22 February 2010: The World Bank office in Sydney, Australia, held a civil society consultation on the World Bank's proposed new Environment Strategy, on 22 February 2010. Stakeholders at the consultation highlighted the importance of urban planning in countries that are especially vulnerable to climate change, such as the low-lying atoll nation of Kiribati. 
16 February 2010: The UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA), Division for Sustainable Development (DSD), in collaboration with the UN Department of Public Information (DPI) and UN-TV, are producing a series of short films to highlight the challenges faced by small island developing States (SIDS). 
17 February 2010: The UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) has published a report titled "Millennium Development Goals: Advances in Environmentally Sustainable Development in Latin America and the Caribbean."
16 February 2010: A conference on Sub-Saharan Africa, held during the first week of February 2010 at Wiston House in Wilton Park, Sussex, UK, focused on the challenges faced by Africa half way between the report of the Commission for Africa, tabled at the Gleneagles Summit in 2005, and the target date for completion of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in 2015. 
11 February 2010: The most recent issue of Science for Environment Policy, the newsletter published by the European Commission to inform policy makers of recent research findings, includes several pieces on climate change and a special thematic issue on climate change and health.
