26 October 2009: National legislators from developed and developing countries agreed on key guiding principles for domestic climate change legislation during a Forum organized by GLOBE (Global Legislators Organization) and the Danish Government on 24-25 October 2009, in Copenhagen, Denmark.
22 October 2009: The UN Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) is convening its 2009 Global Roundtable in Cape Town, South Africa, from 22-23 October 2009. The purpose of the meeting is to explore ways towards achieving sustainable financial markets and economies. 
21 October 2009: The environment ministers of the European Union (EU) agreed on their negotiating position for Copenhagen during a Council meeting held in Luxembourg on 21 October 2009. European finance ministers, who met during a Council meeting held in Luxembourg on 20 October 2009, were not able to agree on climate financing. 
20 October 2009: A special forum on Forests and Energy convened today as part of the XIII World Forestry Congress, in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The event consisted of three panels, addressing the current status and trends of technology for wood energy production and use, the social and environmental impacts of bioenergy production, and bioenergy policy and measures to plot a course for sustainable outcomes. 
October 2009: The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) has released a report entitled “Greening Growth in Asia and the Pacific.”
9 October 2009: Member States of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), which represent 93 percent of commercial air traffic globally, have approved a Declaration affirming their commitment to work through ICAO to reduce industry emissions contributing to climate change. 
9 October 2009: On World Post Day, celebrated annually on 9 October, the Universal Postal Union (UPU) has called attention to its initiative to measure the postal industry’s carbon footprint, with the objective of proposing industry-wide measures to reduce it. 
2 October 2009: The Governors’ Global Climate Summit 2, held from 30 September-2 October 2009, in Los Angeles, US, produced a declaration in which leaders present at the meeting committed to work together to pursue clean transportation and mobility, support national climate change legislation, and include forests in climate policy development. 
30 September 2009: National and local policies are needed to support walking and cycling as sustainable and alternative ways of transport in urban areas that contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions as well as air and noise pollution, limit urban congestion and favor human health. This is the conclusion of the workshop titled “Safe and Healthy Walking and Cycling in Urban Areas” held in Prague, Czech Republic, from 24-25 September 2009.
