31 December 2008: The UN Environment Programme’s (UNEP) Climate Neutral Network has reported that Air New Zealand successfully tested a new jatropha-fuelled jumbo jet. The airline said the experience demonstrated that jatropha biofuel is suitable for use in airplanes without the need for engine modifications.
10 December 2008: The World Bank released a new report entitled “Low Carbon, High Growth: Latin American Responses to Climate Change.” The study argues that a shift towards low carbon activities could enhance the region’s competitiveness and contribute to a faster recovery from the current economic meltdown. 
6 December 2008: A new report released by the World Bank suggests that forecasting improvements in Europe and Central Asia can play a critical role in improving the economy and mitigating the impacts of disasters in the region. The report “Weather and Climate Services in Europe and Central Asia: A Regional Review” explains why improving weather monitoring systems can help mitigate damaging economic impacts of weather disasters, support increased productivity of agriculture, conserve energy, and promote safe aviation and transport by road and rail. 
24 November 2008: The 45th Conference of Directors General of Civil Aviation of the Asia and Pacific Regions is taking place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from 24-28 November 2008, under the theme “Cooperating towards enhanced aviation safety, security, efficiency and environment.”
21 November 2008: Speaking at the closing of the International Conference on Biofuels, which convened from 17-21 November 2008, in São Paolo, Brazil, Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva called on industrialized countries to invest in the production of biofuels in impoverished countries that have available land, such as African countries.
