Event: International Workshop on Addressing the Livelihood Crisis of Farmers: Weather and Climate Services

This workshop is organized by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Meteo-France, USDA and others. The event aims to, inter alia: identify and assess the weather and climate risks and uncertainties that affect the livelihoods of farmers; review and summarize various weather and climate services for the farming community; review climate change risk management in adapting strategic plans to reduce the potential impacts of climate change for farmers; review the use of weather risk insurance strategies and schemes to reduce the vulnerability of the farming communities to weather and climate risks; obtain feedback from farmers on the extent to which current weather and climate services assist them in coping with various weather and climate risks and enhance the productivity of crops on their farms; and discuss and recommend suitable policy options to enhance weather and climate services for the farming community.

Event: International Conference on Biodiversity Conservation in Transboundary Tropical Forests

Organized under the framework of the International Year of Biodiversity and by the International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO), the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), IUCN and others, this conference aims to review the status and way forward for the conservation, management and financing of biodiversity in transboundary tropical forests. Its results and recommendations will be submitted to the tenth session of the CBD’s Conference of the Parties (COP 10), to be held in Nagoya, Japan, in October 2010.

Event: International Conference on Biodiversity Conservation in Transboundary Tropical Forests

Event: Workshop on Forest Governance, Decentralisation and REDD in Latin America

The Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) and the UN Forum on Forests (UNFF), with a number of government collaborators, are organizing a workshop with participants from government, development and environmental NGOs and local community and indigenous peoples representatives to discuss regional perspectives on REDD and develop a better understanding of how decentralisation and forest governance contribute to sustainable management of forests. Event: IEA Workshop on Sustainable Feedstock Supply for Bioenergy and Biofuels

In preparation for two bioenergy reports in its Technology Roadmap series, the International Energy Agency (IEA) is holding a workshop on bioenergy and biofuels feedstocks relating specifically to biomass and land availability, international biomass trade, supply costs and sustainability-related topics. The workshop's sessions will focus, inter alia, on assessing biomass potential and identifying knowledge gaps, identifying steps necessary to ensure sustainability of supply, and furthering public-private-partnerships and international cooperation on ensuring sustainable production.

Event: 10th International Conference on Greenhouse Gas Control Technologies

This conference aims to provide a platform for dialogue on overcoming technical, legal and political barriers to the implementation of greenhouse gas mitigation technologies, focusing almost exclusively on carbon capture and storage (CCS). Event: Global Expert Workshop on Biodiversity Benefits of Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation in Developing Countries

Event: Multilateral Treaty Framework: An invitation to universal participation

This event will take place from 21–23 and 27–28 September 2010. This treaty event will coincide with the general debate of the 65th session of the General Assembly. It provides an opportunity for States to demonstrate their continuing commitment to the central role of the rule of law in international relations. This year’s event will highlight treaties of global reach such as human rights, terrorism, penal matters, disarmament, climate change and the protection of UN personnel. In particular, this year will highlight a theme that celebrates and safeguards life on Earth, \"Biodiversity.\" 2010 marks the International Year of Biodiversity; it also marks the start of the UN Decade for Deserts and the Fight against Desertification, another global issue requiring a global response.

Event: 14th International Anti-Corruption Conference on Restoring Trust: Global Action for Transparency

Event: Second PrepCom for UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD)

The UN General Assembly, in December 2009, adopted a resolution calling for a UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD) to be convened in Brazil in 2012 (also referred to as Rio+20). The resolution established the dates for the preparatory committees leading to the event, and indicates the event should be focused on: a green economy in the context of sustainable development and poverty eradication; and the institutional framework for sustainable development.
