Event: IEA Workshop on Sustainable Feedstock Supply for Bioenergy and Biofuels [viewed]
In preparation for two bioenergy reports in its Technology Roadmap series, the International Energy Agency (IEA) is holding a workshop on bioenergy and biofuels feedstocks relating specifically to biomass and land availability, international biomass trade, supply costs and sustainability-related topics. The workshop's sessions will focus, inter alia, on assessing biomass potential and identifying knowledge gaps, identifying steps necessary to ensure sustainability of supply, and furthering public-private-partnerships and international cooperation on ensuring sustainable production.

July 2010: The International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture has opened its biennial call for proposals to access funds from the $10 million Benefit-sharing Fund. The thematic focus for this call is on ensuring sustainable food security by assisting farmers to adapt to climate change through activities related to the conservation and sustainable use of plant genetic resources.
21 May 2010: The Africa Rice Center has reported on new research that shows that African rice is not inherently lower yielding than Asian rice and describes the adaptability of African rice to harsh growing conditions in Africa, hence its value for developing improved varieties suited to a changing climate.
15 June 2010: The International Center for Agricultural Research in Dry Areas (ICARDA) has announced a new partnership with the Arab Center for the Studies of Arid Zones and Dry Lands (ACSAD) for research on climate change adaptation and conservation agriculture.
June 2010: The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) has released a film to document the experiences of Kenyan herders and farmers affected by the 2008-2009 East African drought.
June 2010: The International Water Management Institute (IWMI) has released a policy brief titled “Banking on Groundwater in Times of Change,” which highlights the importance of groundwater storage for climate change adaptation and mitigation.
29 June 2010: The World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors has approved a pilot project in the Philippines, called the Climate Change Adaptation Project (CCAP), which is designed to enable targeted rural communities to cope with the impact of climate change.
