5 October 2010: The eighth Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM), which convened in Brussels, Belgium, from 4-5 October 2010, discussed climate change among other issues.
5 October 2010: Mercedes Bresso, President of the EU Committee of the Regions, and Elisabeth B. Kautz, President of the US Conference of Mayors, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation on climate action on 5 October 2010.
4 October 2010: The UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UN/ISDR) has announced the launch of its "Making Cities Resilient: My City is Getting Ready" campaign, in the Arab region, at the General Assembly meeting of the Arab Towns Organization.
The Global Observance of the 2010 World Habitat Day will be held at the Shanghai World Expo 2010. As part of the celebration, a special meeting on the ‘Livable City in a Harmonious Society’ will be held. The meeting is one of the six major discussions happening during this week on key urban topics including sustainability, urban development, the environment, economy, cultural heritage, science and innovation. As part of the celebrations worldwide, UN-HABITAT, in partnership with the National Institute for Disaster Management of Mozambique (INGC), is holding a special event in the areas where floods were caused by heavy rains in recent years in Mutarara village, located in the central province of Tete, Mozambique. The event will screen two films: one titled ‘The Change,’ on the causes, effects and adaptation measures to cope with climate change; and a second titled ‘The River,’ which features how people living near the Limpopo river in the southern part of the country have adapted to live with floods.
September 2010: The UN Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and the UN Development Programme (UNDP) held a three-day training workshop on climate change for Arab countries, from 27-29 September 2010, in Jordan.
September 2010: The UN Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and Yale University held their second Conference on Environmental Governance and Democracy around the theme “Strengthening Institutions to Address Climate Change and Advance a Green Economy.”
The Energy Efficiency and Access Forum is organized by the Mexican Secretary of Energy, the World Bank and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). The event is being organized in the run up to the UN Climate Change Conference in Cancún to take place in December of this year. The debate will center around three main topics: norms and standardization; capacity building and dissemination of information to the public; and successful programs from Mexico and other countries.
27 September 2010: Greening the Blue, the website covering all issues relating to the UN's sustainability performance, has won an international award for "best website."
22 September 2010: The UN World Water Assessment Programme (WWAP) and TheWaterChannel.tv, with the support of the Mexican National Water Commission (CONAGUA), the Mexican Consejo Consultivo del Agua, A.C., are organizing the "Water, Climate and… Action!" short film contest.
24 September 2010: The UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) has released a report titled “Trends in Sustainable Development in Small Island Developing States, 2010.”
