UN-REDD, World Bank Respond to REDD+ Partnership Proposal [viewed]

12 May 2010: The UN-REDD Programme and the World Bank's Forest Carbon Partnership Facility (FCPF) and Forest Investment Program (FIP) have released a joint statement in response to a draft document released by the organizers of the meeting on the interim REDD+ (reducing emission from deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries, conservation, sustainable forest management and enhancement of forest carbon stocks) partnership, to be held in Oslo, Norway, on 27 May 2010.

11 May 2010: The UNFCCC Secretariat has published a document synthesizing the views on the areas of focus set out in section IV of  the terms of reference for the review and assessment of the effectiveness of the implementation of Article 4, paragraphs 1(c) and 5, of the Convention (technology transfer)  specified in 11 submissions received from: Australia, Belarus, Belize, Canada, Colombia, the Czech Republic on behalf of the European Community (EC) and its member States, Grenada on behalf of the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS), Kazakhstan, Japan, Panama on behalf of Costa Rica, Mexico and Panama, Saudi Arabia, and Uzbekistan (FCCC/SBI/2010/INF.6).

Event: Workshop on Forest Governance, Decentralisation and REDD in Latin America [viewed]

The Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) and the UN Forum on Forests (UNFF), with a number of government collaborators, are organizing a workshop with participants from government, development and environmental NGOs and local community and indigenous peoples representatives to discuss regional perspectives on REDD and develop a better understanding of how decentralisation and forest governance contribute to sustainable management of forests. The results are expected to feed into the 9th session of the UN Forum on Forests. CIFOR is a member of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR).

World Bank Consultation in Australia Highlights Importance of Sustainable Urban Planning in Pacific Islands [viewed]

22 February 2010: The World Bank office in Sydney, Australia, held a civil society consultation on the World Bank's proposed new Environment Strategy, on 22 February 2010. Stakeholders at the consultation highlighted the importance of urban planning in countries that are especially vulnerable to climate change, such as the low-lying atoll nation of Kiribati.

The event will bring together business leaders to explore, share and project their vision and commitment to implement climate solutions now and for the next four decades. It is jointly organized by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) and the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) together with the Confederation of Danish Industry.
