Biological Diversity (CBD) has announced that a regional workshop for countries
of the Caribbean region on capacity-building for national biodiversity
strategies and action plans, mainstreaming of biodiversity and the integration
of climate change will be held in Trinidad and Tobago, from 3-7 November 2008.

administration of the Convention, which contains a summary of key activities

August 2008: The Global Partnership Initiative for Plant
Breeding Capacity Building (GIPB), a platform and partnership of public,
private and civil society institutions hosted by the UN Food and Agriculture
Organization (FAO), in collaboration with the FAO Inter-Departmental Working
Group on Bioenergy, has called for expanded, up-to-date information on genetic
resources and breeding of selected underutilized species, together with
detailed analysis of their potential as bioenergy crops adaptable to sustainable
smallholder production systems.

13 August 2008: A UN-backed expert group, the Steering Board
on Sustainable Biofuels (RSB), has endorsed a draft sustainability standard
that would evaluate the economic, social and environmental effects of biofuels
over their entire life-cycle.

Biodiversity Indicators Partnership about the timetable for preparing the third

1 August 2008: The Secretariat of the Convention on
Biological Diversity (CBD) has announced, in a notification, that the state
government of Parana in Brazil has delivered on its commitment to offset all
carbon emissions arising out of the CBD Secretariat’s operations between the
ninth and the tenth Conference of the Parties (COP), including the travel of
funded party representatives to attend official CBD meetings, estimated at
around 10,200 tons of carbon equivalent.
