April 2009: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the University of Joensuu, Finland are jointly organizing a two-week course on international environmental law-making and diplomacy.
22 April 2009: The UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA) Climate Change Working Group has prepared two policy briefs on forests and climate change. Policy Brief 15 addresses finance for forests and climate change, and Policy Brief 16 addresses reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation (REDD). 
22 April 2009: Miguel d’Escoto Brockmann, President of the 63rd session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA), opened a plenary meeting on the protection of global climate for present and future generations of mankind (draft resolution A/63/L.69). 
21 April 2009: On the occasion of the unveiling of the Climate Change Monument at the International Maritime Law Institute in Valletta, Malta, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon noted Malta’s contributions in fighting climate change. 
17 April 2009: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released a notification to parties containing an updated table listing upcoming deadlines for submissions of information and views invited by the Convention and Kyoto Protocol bodies. 
15 April 2009: Addressing the “High-Level Meeting on the UN and the EU: Building an Effective Multilateralism,” which took place on 14 April 2009, in Barcelona, Spain, UN Deputy Secretary-General Asha-Rose Migiro underlined that the economic, food and energy crises, as well as climate change, are exacerbating the problems faced by developing countries.
