22 September 2009: The AOSIS Climate Change Summit was held in New York, on 21 September 2009, to set a course for AOSIS negotiators in the final months of talks on a post-2012 agreement.
17 September 2009: UNESCO’s OceanObs’09 Conference, held from 21-25 September 2009, in Venice, Italy, will seek to take stock of the progress made over the last ten years, presenting scientific results based on global ocean observation, considering the related societal and economic benefits, examining the present frontiers of global ocean observations, and looking at the way ahead in the coming decade. 
3 September 2009: The UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA), UN Division for Ocean Affairs and the Law of the Sea (UNDOALOS) and UN Foundation organized an Expert Panel on Ocean Acidification to increase awareness and highlight options to avoid adverse impacts of ocean acidification on marine life and ecosystems. 
September 2009: The World Maritime Day 2009 will be celebrated at the headquarters of the International Maritime Organization in London, UK, on 24 September 2009, under the theme “Climate change: a challenge for IMO too!” To mark the occasion, IMO Secretary-General Efthimios Mitropoulos has prepared a special message on the issue, supported by a background paper. 
2 September 2009: Investing in the restoration and maintenance of the Earth’s ecosystems can play a key role in countering climate change and climate-proofing vulnerable economies, says a new climate issues update by The Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity (TEEB) project. 
25 August 2009: Scientists from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Marine Environment Laboratories in Monaco are reaching the end of their involvement in a month-long sampling effort aboard a Canadian research icebreaking vessel, studying the effects of climate change on the Arctic environment. 
12 August 2009: The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has published its annual report for 2008, which highlights activities related to climate change issues. 
10 August 2009: The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) is inviting participation in the peer review of the draft report “Scientific Synthesis on the Impacts of Ocean Acidification on Marine Biodiversity.” 
31 July 2009: Jacques Diouf, UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Director-General, has sent a document to Ministers for Foreign Affairs, Development Cooperation and Agriculture of members of FAO and the UN to initiate the negotiation of a declaration for adoption by the World Summit of Heads of State and Government on Food Security, scheduled to take place from 16-18 November 2009, in Rome, Italy. 
17 July 2009: “On the Frontlines of Climate Change,” an internet forum launched by the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in partnership with the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), the Secretariat of the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII) and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), has published an article on the early impacts of climate change.
