European Commission Funds Drought Resilience in the Greater Horn of Africa

23 June 2010: The European Commission has adopted a €20 million humanitarian financial package to support 12 million people affected by drought in Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia and Uganda in developing resilience to drought and adapting to climate change.

This allocation is also expected to fund preparedness programmes, protect lives and livelihoods, and improve food security and the provision of water and sanitation. The funds will be channelled through the Commission's department for humanitarian aid and civil protection (ECHO).
