19 October 2009: The UN General Assembly (UNGA) Second Committee (Economic and Financial) participated, on 19 October, in a panel discussion focused on “Climate Change: Impacts and Threats,” based on the Secretary-General’s report “Climate Change and its Possible Security Implications.” The event was organized by the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA) under the auspices of the Second Committee.
16 October 2009: The United Nations Environment Programme’s (UNEP) International Panel for Sustainable Resource Management has published its first report, entitled “Towards Sustainable Production and Use of Resources: Assessing Biofuels.”
October 2009: The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) has released a report entitled “Greening Growth in Asia and the Pacific.”
16 October 2009: The Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) observed annual World Food Day, celebrated on 16 October, with events around the world focusing on the theme of “achieving food security in times of crisis.” 
13 October 2009: The Community-Based Adaptation (CBA) scheme, an initiative of the UN Development Programme (UNDP) funded by the Global Environment Facility’s (GEF) Small Grants Programme (SGP), provides technical support to communities who want to understand what climate change is and how they could potentially deal with it. 
13 October 2009: The UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) convened a two-day high-level forum on “How to Feed the World in 2050,” from 12-13 October 2009, at FAO headquarters in Rome, Italy. 
October 2009: Bioversity International’s Platform for Agrobiodiversity Research project on climate change is collecting information about initiatives on adaptation to climate change based on the use of agrobiodiversity. 
6 October 2009: The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) will fund a feasibility study in Chile to explore sustainable biodiesel derived from forest industry byproducts and wood waste, which do not compete with food production. 
6 October 2009: The International Labour Organization (ILO) has a launched a new project to reduce the impact of changing weather patterns on the local economy.
