26 June 2009: The UN Conference on the World Financial and Economic Crisis took place from 24-26 June 2009, at UN Headquarters in New York, US, and underscored the role of green economy initiatives in tackling the crisis.
24 June 2009: Addressing the UN Conference on the World Financial and Economic Crisis and its Impact on Development taking place in New York, US, from 24-26 June 2009, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon stated that we are still going through a multiple food, energy, and economic crisis, and that “the effects of climate change and extreme poverty have become even starker.”
24 June 2009: During the Global Humanitarian Forum held in Geneva, Switzerland, from 23-24 June 2009, the International Research Institute for Climate and Society of the Columbia University, in partnership with the UN Development Programme (UNDP), the World Food Programme (WFP) and others, launched the second issue of Climate and Society, titled “Index insurance and climate risk: prospects for development and disaster management.” 
June 2009: The 15th edition of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD)-UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Agricultural Outlook addresses, among other issues, the interdependence between food and energy markets and the possible impacts of expanding demand for biofuels on agricultural commodity prices. 
18 June 2009: The Global Humanitarian Forum and its President, former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, together with Ericsson, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), mobile telecommunications company Zain, and the Earth Institute at Columbia University have announced an initiative, dubbed “Weather Info for All,” which will seek to improve Africa’s weather monitoring network in the face of the growing impact of climate change. 
18 June 2009: The UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) is organizing an expert meeting on “The Carbon Footprint in Agro food Goods and Services: A Contribution to Combating Global Warming” in Santiago, Chile, from 18-19 June 2009. 
17 June 2009: The Secretariat of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) selected the theme “Conserving land and water = Securing our common future” for the 17 June celebration of World Day to Combat Desertification.
