7 May 2009: A consortium consisting of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the Feinstein International Center (Tufts University), the International Committee of the Red Cross, the African Union and Vétérinaires Sans Frontières (VSF) Europa, has published a set of Livestock Emergency Standards and Guidelines (LEGS) to assist in the design of emergency relief actions for livestock keepers affected by climate change.
7 May 2009: The UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) has released a study on sustainable agriculture and food security in Asia and the Pacific. 
6 May 2009: The international workshop on Adaptation to Climate Change in West African Agriculture, held in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, from 27-30 April 2009, was jointly sponsored by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and partner organizations. The event brought together over 70 experts and decision makers to discuss and recommend climate change adaptation options for the agriculture, livestock, forestry and fisheries sectors in West Africa. 
5 May 2009: The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the Regional Fund for Agricultural Technology (FONTAGRO) have announced that they will fund three projects on adapting regional productive systems to climate change. 
5 May 2009: The Global Environment Facility’s (GEF) Small Grants Programme was launched in Zambia on 24 April 2009, at one of the projects that benefited from the funding. 
4 May 2009: The 17th session of the UN Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD17) opened on 4 May 2009, at UN Headquarters in New York, US. 
30 April 2009: At the UN Department of Public Information briefing for non-governmental organizations on “Biodiversity – The basis for Human Well-Being: Celebrating the International Year of Biodiversity in 2010,” held on 30 April 2009, at UN Headquarters in New York, US, Ahmed Djoghlaf, Executive Secretary of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) highlighted the International Year of Biodiversity as an opportunity to celebrate the diversity of life on the planet, recognize its importance for our well-being, and take the steps needed to ensure that it is available for future generations. 
30 April 2009: In a message to the Ministerial Meeting of the Movement of Non-Aligned Nations (NAM), held in Havana, Cuba, on 30 April 2009, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon called for a “closely coordinated” response to the interconnected crises of food insecurity, extreme poverty and climate change that are being “exacerbated by global financial and economic turmoil of unprecedented proportions.”
4 May 2009: The UNFCCC Secretariat organized a Technical Workshop on Increasing Economic Resilience to Climate Change and Reducing Reliance on Vulnerable Economic Sectors through Economic Diversification, which met from 28-30 April 2009, in Cairo, Egypt. The workshop was convened under the Nairobi Work Programme on impacts, vulnerability and adaptation to climate change (NWP).
