October 2009: The World Bank has published a note emphasizing the role of good agricultural practices and integrated natural resource management in addressing both mitigation and adaptation to climate change in production landscapes.
27 October 2009: Director of the UN Economic Commission for Africa’s (ECA) Food and Security and Sustainable Development Josue Dione welcomed participants to the sixth session of the Committee on Food Security and Sustainable Development, which is meeting in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and reported on ECA’s implementation of its 2008-2009 work programme, especially with regard to land policy, agricultural development, food security and the challenges of climate change. 
19 October 2009: The UN General Assembly (UNGA) Second Committee (Economic and Financial) participated, on 19 October, in a panel discussion focused on “Climate Change: Impacts and Threats,” based on the Secretary-General’s report “Climate Change and its Possible Security Implications.” The event was organized by the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA) under the auspices of the Second Committee. 
15 October 2009: The third meeting of participants for the fifth Global Environment Facility (GEF-5) Replenishment convened at the World Bank office in Paris, France, from 14-15 October 2009. 
October 2009: The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) has released a report entitled “Greening Growth in Asia and the Pacific.”
3 October 2009: Among the 36 decisions adopted before the final gavel came down at 7:50 am on Saturday, 3 October, at the ninth session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 9) to the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), was a decision that identifies two indicators – the proportion of the population in affected areas living above the poverty line and land cover status – as the minimum subset of impact indicators required for reporting by affected countries beginning in 2012, along with additional, optional impact indicators.
