11 November 2009: Scientists and Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) officials have stressed that, as global warming alters temperatures and precipitation patterns around the world, the threat posed by invasive species is rising.
6 November 2009: Speaking at a UN Headquarters press conference, in New York, US, on 6 November 2009, Colin Chartres, Director General of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CIGAR) at the International Water Management Institute (IWMI), warned that although some countries might get more rainfall as a result of climate change, those depending on snowmelt could expect water levels to drop by up to 30%.
November 2009: The Secretariat of the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands, together with the Danone Groupe and IUCN, has called for “wet carbon” project proposals, or projects with wetland, community and climate impacts. 
6 November 2009: A special event titled “Enhancing Governance on Water” was held on 6 November 2009, as part of the 64th Session of the UN General Assembly’s Second Committee (Economic and Financial), during which experts discussed some of the key issues on the global water agenda, such as cooperating on transboundary water resources, strengthening the response to climate change through smart water management and reducing the impacts of water related disasters. 
29 October 2009: The Fifth International Water Conference took place in Cairns, Australia, from 24-29 October 2009, and was co-hosted by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the Government of Australia. 
27 October 2009: The Fifth GEF Biennial International Waters Conference, co-hosted by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the Government of Australia, gathered over 300 of the world’s leading water specialists to identify practical measures for coping with climatic variability. The Conference convened from 24-29 October 2009, at the Australian Great Barrier Reef, and featured new research on protecting coral reefs, adapting to the accelerated warming of coastal oceans, and adjusting to the movement of fisheries away from warming, polluted waters. 
27 October 2009: The Seventh “Environment for Europe” Ministerial Conference, to be held in autumn 2011 in Astana, Kazakhstan, will have two themes: “the sustainable management of water and water-related ecosystems” and “greening the economy: mainstreaming the environment into economic development.”
