20 July 2009: UN-HABITAT Executive Director Anna Tibaijuka delivered a keynote address to the XVIII Assembly of Ministers and lead authorities of housing and urban development in Latin America and the Caribbean (MINURVI), which convened in Montego Bay, Jamaica, and emphasized three key messages: decent housing and universal access to basic urban services are critical elements to the well-being of urban populations and poverty reduction; cities play a role as engines of economic growth; and sustainable development depends on sustainable urban development.
9 July 2009: The UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT) organized the first Habitat Business Forum from 7-9 July 2009, in New Delhi, India, in collaboration with the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industries, the Indian Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation, and the China Real Estate Chamber of Commerce. Under the theme innovative cities, the Forum brought together representatives from government, civil society and the private sector to discuss urban challenges, as well as sustainable and innovative solutions through public-private community partnerships. 
7 July 2009: The UN International Strategy on Disaster Reduction (UN/ISDR) urged the G8 Summit convening in L’Aquila, Italy, from 8-10 July, to apply their “considerable influence, resources and political will” to advance five major action points on disaster risk reduction (DRR). 
2 July 2009: The fifth Urban Research Symposium, which took place from 28 June-1 July 2009, in Marseille, France, was co-organized by the World Bank, the French ministry of Ecology, Energy, Sustainable Development and Town and Country Planning, and the French Agency for Development around the theme “Cities and Climate Change: Responding to the Urgent Agenda.”
1 July 2009: The UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UN/ISDR) has released the May-June 2009 issue of its newsletter ISDR-Highlights, which features an article on the launch of the Global Assessment Report on Disaster Risk Reduction “Risk and Poverty in a Changing Climate.” 
26 June 2009: The UN Population Fund (UNFPA), and the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED), in collaboration with the Population Division of the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA) and the UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT), held a workshop from 24-25 June 2009, in London, UK, on population dynamics and climate change. 
24 June 2009: The Global Humanitarian Forum took place from 23-24 June 2009, in Geneva, Switzerland, and was organized around the theme “Human Impact of Climate Change.” 
18 June 2009: The National Environment Management Authority of Uganda, the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), UNEP GRID Arendal and other partners have published a new atlas titled “The Uganda Atlas of Our Changing Environment.”
10 June 2009: The UN University’s Institute for Environment and Human Security (UNU-EHS), CARE International and Columbia University’s Center for International Earth Science Information Network (CIESIN) launched a report titled “In Search of Shelter: Mapping the Effects of Climate Change on Human Migration and Displacement” during the Bonn climate change talks.
