Executive Director Anna Tibaijuka has signed a Memorandum of Understanding and
Participation Contract with the Government of the People’s Republic of China on
the UN’s participation in the Shanghai World Expo 2010, which will be held from
1 May to 31 October 2010 around the theme ‘Better City, Better Life.’

August 2008: The Asian Development Bank’s (ADB) Urban
Community of Practice is organizing the ADB Urban Day 2008, which will take
place in Manila, Philippines, on 8 September 2008. Urban Day 2008 will bring
together representatives from national and local governments, international
communities of practice, the private sector, civil society and academia to
discuss urban environment, sanitation and transport, as well as city region
development, and municipal finance and governance.

August 2008: The UN Industrial Development Organization
(UNIDO) is organizing, in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment of
Jordan, an “Eco-cities Forum,” which will take place from 18-20 October 2008,
at the Dead Sea in Jordan. The Forum aims to promote awareness, best practices,
