9 June 2009: In an effort to green the 2014 Sochi Olympics, the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Russian Olympic organizers to help and advise them on making the games environmentally friendly.
9 June 2009: On the sidelines of the 98th Session of the International Labour Conference, taking place from 3-19 June 2009, in Geneva, Switzerland, the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the Danish Government co-organized a side event on “Climate Change and the World of Work.” 
5 June 2009: Representatives from the five UN regional commissions, namely the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), the UN Economic and Social Commission for East Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), the UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (UNECLAC), the UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), and the UN Economic and Social Commission for West Asia (UNESCWA), gathered in Geneva, Switzerland, on 4 June 2009, for the first meeting of the Global Energy Efficiency 21 (GEE21) project.

June 2009: The UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has published the fifth issue of its FoodClimate E-newsletter. 
4 June 2009: As part of this year’s World Environment Day celebrations, the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) is launching “Climate Heroes,” a long term platform supporting a select group of people undertaking exceptional acts of environmental activism under the global banner, “Unite to Combat Climate Change.”
2 June 2009: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) announced that its Billion Tree Campaign has passed the four billion mark, a crucial step towards its target of seven billion trees planted by the end of 2009. 
June 2009: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released a fact sheet on the Nairobi Framework, which was adopted in 2006 and launched by then-UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan.
