13 April 2009: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) announced that North American celebrations for World Environment Day, observed annually on 5 June, will be hosted in Omaha, Nebraska. Mexico City, the capital of Mexico, will serve as the international host city for this year’s World Environment Day, whose theme is “Your Planet Needs You – UNite to Combat Climate Change,” and which seeks to encourage nations to reach agreement in Copenhagen in December 2009.

6 April 2009: The UN Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) have entered into a collaborative effort to help build capacity for climate change adaptation. Under the partnership, UNEP’s Division of Early Warning and Assessment will develop a joint module, based on the training resources developed under the UNITAR’s Climate Change Capacity Development project. The new module will then be included in UNEP’s Integrated Environmental Assessment (IEA) training manual.
