The January issue begins with a message from IPCC Chair Rajendra Pachauri, in which he reflects on the Panel's work in January related to the Fifth Assessment Report (AR5). Chair Pachauri also notes recent media developments around the IPCC, but expresses belief "that the truth will prevail and the mal-intent of those who are behind the falsehoods that are being produced in the media would be exposed."

These events included the production by the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA) of a draft decision on methodological issues, which was adopted by the 15th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 15), and references to REDD being included in the Copenhagen Accord.
