The UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) held an expert meeting on the “Trade and Investment Opportunities and Challenges under the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM)” in Geneva, Switzerland, from 27-29 April 2009. The event included presentations by academics, research institutions and country experts who explored ways to facilitate participation from developing countries and least developed countries in the CDM, and provided examples of how to overcome existing obstacles to greater CDM investment flows.
5 May 2009: The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the Regional Fund for Agricultural Technology (FONTAGRO) have announced that they will fund three projects on adapting regional productive systems to climate change. 
5 May 2009: The Global Environment Facility’s (GEF) Small Grants Programme was launched in Zambia on 24 April 2009, at one of the projects that benefited from the funding. 
4 May 2009: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has established an Advisory Group of seven eminent persons to advise the Bank on how to strengthen its programmes to meet the global challenge of climate change. The Advisory Group on Climate Change and Sustainable Development will help ADB management consider ways to assist ADB’s developing member countries move their economies onto low-carbon development paths and address the social impacts of climate change. 
May 2009: The Global Environment Facility’s Scientific and Technical Advisory Panel (GEF-STAP) met in Rome, Italy, from 28-30 April 2009, to review GEF implementation science and the emerging strategies for the fifth GEF Replenishment (GEF-5). 
4 May 2009: The UNFCCC Secretariat organized a Technical Workshop on Increasing Economic Resilience to Climate Change and Reducing Reliance on Vulnerable Economic Sectors through Economic Diversification, which met from 28-30 April 2009, in Cairo, Egypt. The workshop was convened under the Nairobi Work Programme on impacts, vulnerability and adaptation to climate change (NWP).

27 April 2009: The annual High-Level Meeting of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) with the Bretton Woods Institutions, the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) addressed the global economic crisis and perspectives for UN responses.
