9 April 2009: Alicia Bárcena, Executive Secretary, UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), highlighted that the current focus on responding to the international financial crisis should not postpone efforts to address the effects of climate change. She outlined the region’s priorities in addressing climate change during a conference on the Japanese proposal Cool Earth 50 offered by Akio Hosono at ECLAC headquarters in Santiago, Chile.
2 April 2009: The European Investment Bank (EIB) is providing a total of EUR 220 million in three operations that will contribute to the mitigation of climate change, within the objectives of the China Climate Change Framework Loan (CCCFL), signed with the People’s Republic of China in November 2007. 
April 2009: The World Bank, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), UN-HABITAT, the UN Population Fund (UNFPA) and other donors are supporting the organization of the fifth Urban Research Symposium, which will be held from 28 June-1 July 2009, in Marseille, France, under the theme “Cities and Climate Change: Responding to the Urgent Agenda.”
31 March 2009: The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is intensifying its lending for energy efficiency and clean energy projects, and has recently established two new facilities worth €110 million to finance investments by enterprises in the Western Balkans in energy efficiency and renewable energy projects. 
3 April 2009: The World Bank’s “Energy Week 2009,” which convened from 31 March-2 April 2009, in Washington DC, US, focused on the theme “Energy, Development, and Climate Change.” During the week, energy and development policy-makers and practitioners analyzed several issues, including energy innovations for clean transport; securing a climate sensitive energy supply; integrating wind energy development; and scaling up energy efficiency for climate change mitigation. 
March 2009: The Director of the Division for Sustainable Development of the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN-DESA), Tariq Banuri, has co-authored a UN-DESA Policy Brief titled “A Global Green New Deal for Sustainable Development.” 
2 April 2009: The UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) held its 63rd session from 30 March-1 April 2009, in Geneva, Switzerland, during which participants discussed the effects of the economic crisis and the role the UNECE can play in increasing trade facilitation, as well as climate change mitigation and adaptation. 
11 March 2009: The International Finance Corporation (IFC), part of the World Bank Group, will provide Pakistan’s Allied Bank with guarantees for sustainable finance and energy-efficient trade deals. 
March 2009: The World Bank has published country notes for Latin America and the Caribbean on climate change and agriculture.
