ICAO Statement to AWG-LCA3 Addresses Options to Reduce GHG Emissions from International Civil Aviation

25 August 2008: In a statement to the third Session of the

Ad hoc Working Group on Long-term Cooperative Action under the Convention

(AWG-LCA 3), which met in Accra, Ghana, from 21-27 August 2008, the

International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) addressed the various

approaches and options under which greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from

international civil aviation can be effectively addressed.

ICAO Addresses its Collaboration with the UNFCCC at AWG-KP6

25 August 2008: In a statement to the First Part of the

Sixth Session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Further Commitments for Annex I

Parties under the Kyoto Protocol (AWG-KP6), which took place in Accra, Ghana,

from 21-27 August 2008, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO)

referred to recent developments in the field of environmental protection,

including: progress made by ICAO’s Committee on Aviation Environmental

Protection in prioritizing and intensifying all activities related to

greenhouse gas emissions (GHG); and the holding of the second meeting of the

Group on International Aviation and Climate Change, where the possible

establishment of short, medium and long term goals for fuel burn was discussed.

August 2008: The Asian Development Bank’s (ADB) Urban

Community of Practice is organizing the ADB Urban Day 2008, which will take

place in Manila, Philippines, on 8 September 2008. Urban Day 2008 will bring

together representatives from national and local governments, international

communities of practice, the private sector, civil society and academia to

discuss urban environment, sanitation and transport, as well as city region

development, and municipal finance and governance.

ICAO Written Submission to UNFCCC AWG-LCA 3 Outlines Possible Measures to Reduce Emissions from Aviation

August 2008: The International Civil Aviation Organization

(ICAO) has made a written submission to the third Session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Long-term

Cooperative Action under the Convention (AWG-LCA), which is taking place in

Accra, Ghana, from 21-27 August 2008. The submission includes a presentation of

ICAO’s past and current work in reducing emissions from aircrafts and the

current international legal regime.

Eco - Cities of the Mediterranean Forum 2008 August 2008: The UN Industrial Development Organization

(UNIDO) is organizing, in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment of

Jordan, an “Eco-cities Forum,” which will take place from 18-20 October 2008,

at the Dead Sea in Jordan. The Forum aims to promote awareness, best practices,

investment opportunities and technology transfer in the environmental sector in

Jordan as well as among municipalities in the Mediterranean region.
