30 January 2010: During a visit to an integrated bioeconomy system project in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon underscored that Ethiopia is one of the countries that has suffered the consequences of climate change, in particular due to deforestation.
1 February 2010: The latest issue of the International Tropical Timber Organization’s (ITTO) newsletter, Tropical Forest Update, includes an article that questions whether payments for reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries (REDD) can make natural forests competitive with oil palm plantations.

27 January 2010: The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), a member of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR), has joined with Equity Bank and UAP Insurance to offer index-based insurance to rural herders in arid areas of Northern Kenya.

13 January 2010: The UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has released a Land and Water Discussion Paper that addresses opportunities for mitigation and adaptation in dryland pastoral systems. 
11 January 2010: The UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has released a report examining the potential for organic agriculture to sequester carbon and meet carbon accounting requirements, including permanence, leakage and additionality.
