This event will launch the Challenge Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS), which is supported by the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) and the Earth System Science Partnership (ESSP). CCAFS is a new 10-year research initiative seeking to help vulnerable rural communities adapt to climate change and address threats to agriculture and food security.
December 2009: The UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has published a working paper titled "Climate change, disaster, displacement and migration: initial evidence from Africa," based on evidence from Burundi and Somalia, which are among the most vulnerable countries in the world.
16 December 2009: At a side event held during the UN Copenhagen Climate Change Conference, the UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (UNECLAC) released a study that identifies the economic impacts of climate change on the region.
15 December 2009: The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) approved a US$102 million loan in partial financing for two wind power projects totaling 318 MW in the state of Oaxaca, Mexico. 
13 December 2009: The UN Environment Programme - World Conservation Monitoring Centre (UNEP-WCMC), together with a range of organizations, has participated in a study that identifies areas where carbon and biodiversity benefits can be maximized, including global biodiversity hotspots. 
13 December 2009: The Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR), together with a number of other organizations, hosted the Agriculture and Rural Development Day on 12 December 2009, in Copenhagen, Denmark, in parallel with the Copenhagen Climate Change Conference.

11 December 2009: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP), together with the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) and the Center for International Climate and Environmental Research (CICERO), has released a study on climate-induced extreme droughts and floods risks in the Himalayas.
11 December 2009: The UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has released a collection of three technical papers that present an overview of knowledge on "Climate Change and Implications for Fisheries and Aquaculture."
