January 2009: The Capacity Development for Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (CD REDD) programme, will feature two technical workshops in the upcoming months to enhance the development of national greenhouse gas inventories and forest monitoring systems.
17 December 2008: On the occasion of the fifth annual UN Day for South-South Cooperation and the Launch of the Global South-South Development Expo, organized by the UN Development Programme on 17 December 2008, Ahmed Djoghlaf, Executive Secretary of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), drew attention to statistics coming from climate-related natural disasters. 
11 December 2008: On the occasion of International Mountain Day, celebrated on 11 December, Ahmed Djoghlaf, Executive Secretary of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), delivered a message on food security in the mountains. 
9 December 2008: The ninth National Conference on Science, Policy and the Environment, organized by the US National Council for Science and Environment under the theme of “Biodiversity in a Rapidly Changing World,” took place in Washington DC, US, from 8-10 December 2008. Addressing the Conference, Ahmed Djoghlaf, Executive Secretary of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), provided an overview of the CBD and its programmes of work, and called for ratification by the US.
