Event: 14th International Anti-Corruption Conference on Restoring Trust: Global Action for Transparency

This annual International Anti-Corruption Conference (IACC), organized by Transparency International with the support of the Royal Thai Ministy of Justice, will focus on how global and national efforts to reduce poverty and to deliver on promises for sustainable development, human security, curbing illicit trade and climate control have not yet resulted in positive change. The UN Development Programme (UNDP) will organize a roundtable on REDD (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation in developing countries) and corruption, in partnership with GTZ. UNDP is also supporting the plenary on “Climate Governance: Ensuring a Collective Commitment” and is currently preparing a background overview paper mapping the corruption risks and anti-corruption opportunities related to climate change mitigation and adaptation.

AMCEN 13 Focuses on Rio Conventions, Prepares for Cancun

25 June 2010: The 13th Session of the African Ministers' Conference on Environment (AMCEN) took place in Bamako, Mali, from 20-25 June 2010, under the theme “Enhancing the interrelationship between climate change, biodiversity and desertification for sustainable development.” The meeting concluded with the adoption of the Bamako Declaration, which was developed to serve as the continent's new road map for sustainable development and basis for strengthening the common negotiating position on climate change and biological diversity.

World Bank Appoints Special Envoy for Climate Change

25 June 2010: Robert Zoellick, World Bank President, announced the appointment of Andrew Steer as Special Envoy for Climate Change, a new position created for focused leadership and representation of the World Bank in the international climate change discussions.

UN-REDD Holds Workshop on MRV

25 June 2010: The UN Collaborative Programme on Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (UN-REDD Programme), along with the Group on Earth Observations (GEO) and the Mexican Forestry Commission (CONAFOR), held a workshop titled “Measurement, reporting and verification (MRV), a roadmap for implementation at the country level,” from 22-24 June 2010, in Guadalajara, Mexico.

24 June 2010: The fifth Rights and Resources Initiative (RRI) Dialogue on Forests, Governance and Climate Change took place on 22 June 2010, in Washington DC, US. The Dialogue provided a forum for representatives from governments and civil society to discuss recent developments in the global architecture for a mechanism for reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation, conservation, sustainable management of forests and enhancement of carbon stocks (REDD+).
